Limited Flights Resume At Brussels Airport

Long-haul passenger flights resumed Monday at Brussels Airport 13 days after the deadly terrorist attack that struck the airport’s passenger terminal, although a full schedule is not expected until at least June, with passenger flights initially resuming at a much-reduced capacity.

Local carrier Brussels Airlines resumed short-haul flights Sunday out of Brussels Airport with three European services, while Monday morning’s services included Brussels Airlines flights to New York Kennedy airport, Yaounde, and Douala. Later Monday, other airlines were also to resume flights, including Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, and United Airlines.

Prior to the terrorist attack on 22 March, Brussels Airlines operated around 300 flights daily between Brussels and over 90 European and African destinations, as well as New York JFK and Washington DC. Brussels Airlines offers cargo capacity on all its flights, with its long-haul flights are operated with Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft. The airline also plans to launch five weekly flights to Toronto, Canada, later this month. In addition to its 23 long haul destinations in Africa and the US, Brussels Airlines and its intercontinental partners also offer long-haul codeshare flights to the United Arab Emirates, China, Thailand, India, North America and Canada.
